Wessex Auctions Report – Antiques, Collectables & Furniture - 15th April 2023
It was an 18th Century English Delft tin glazed plate that captured the imagination of the saleroom this past Saturday with strong online bidders beaten by one of the two telephone bidders after eventually reaching a hammer price of £1,600 plus bp. That early lot set the tone for another fine Wessex Auction which included a wonderful array of lots to wow the Wiltshire crowd in the room as well as those bidding online around the world.
One of the scarcest items in the 650 strong lot auction was a complete deck of 19th Century Imperial Royal playing cards, circa 1828, featuring a complete deck of coloured wood-engraved cards depicting historical figures. Not only does the age of such a set of cards create interest, but to have the full deck still together find its way to our auction room in Wiltshire makes this item even more exciting. Unsurprisingly online interest was strong and the deck sold for a cool £600 plus bp.
Another item that you can always bet on at a Wessex Auction is a collection of Royal Crown Derby Old Imari tea & dinner ware. This collection contained 42 pieces of the instantly recognisable pattern and reached a selling price of £850 plus bp.
