Wessex Auctions Report – 1st April 2023
Once again we had a room packed full of bidders to go with the online buyers at our Antiques, Collectables & Furniture auction. Also in attendance were the BBC Bargain Hunt cameras which added to the usual Wessex Auction day buzz.
Tim Weeks was the auctioneer that got things started and once Lot 1, a Whitefriars Pineapple Vase designed by the sought after Geoffrey Baxter, sold for £240 plus buyers premium we knew that the bidding both in room and online was going to be fierce.
Furniture has had a great start to year at Wessex Auction Rooms and the star lot of today’s auction was a stunning 18th century walnut cross-banded chest of drawers selling for £1,700 plus bp to an online bidder.Yet more proof that a combination of quality auctioneers and quality furniture, will always sell well.
The auction saw a good day for figures and ceramics of all types and a collection of Robert Harrop sent both room and online bidders into a frenzy as the 7 lots sold for a total of £1895 plus bp.The figures included classic characters such as The Dandy and Beano and all were put up for sale from a vendor that kept all boxes in a great condition. While the online bidders from around the world tried hard to get some of this stunning collection, they were shared between two room bidders in Wiltshire.
