WILTSHIRE AUCTIONEER SET FOR TV STARDOM

Wessex Auction Rooms’ Head Valuer and Jewellery specialist Izzie Balmer FGA DGA, is the newest face to be seen as an expert on the current series of BBC’s Antiques Road Trip starring alongside James Braxton. Izzie, who has been with the Wessex Auction Rooms team in Wiltshire since January 2018 made her TV debut as an auctioneer on Bargain Hunt and was quickly spotted in the edit suite and asked to film BBC’s Street Auction which has subsequently led to her most recent adventures on Antiques Road Trip. “It was an absolute pleasure to film” enthuses Izzie “It was so much fun, James is an absolute gent and he had me in fits of giggles. It was such a privilege to potter around the countryside in a beautiful classic car and stop off at some antiques shops along the way.” Izzie’s excitement and energy are infectious and it’s easy to see why she’s quickly becoming a viewer’s favourite.“People ask me what my favourite moment was” continues Izzie, “but how can I choose just one moment? One thing I learned quickly is that it’s a lot harder to buy an item from an antiques shop and make a profit at auction than I thought it would be. I had to listen to my head and not my heart.”

Following the success of her first series of Antiques Road Trip, Izzie has filmed four Celebrity Antiques Road Trip episodes which will be on the TV screens in November and December. The show sees two celebrities battle it out with the help of their antiques expert. “It was really interesting seeing what each of the celebrities were drawn to in the antiques shops” comments Izzie, “I’ve got to say, there were certainly a few surprises.”

Izzie isn’t the only one making waves on the TV at Wessex Auction Rooms – Director Tim Weeks has been a regular face on BBC Bargain Hunt for the past three years, and Martin Hughes has recently been filming with ITV’s Dickinson’s Real Deal.Izzie says “We’re a young vibrant team at Wessex Auction Rooms with knowledge in many specialist fields. It’s exciting that TV production companies are keen to produce programmes about Antiques and Collectables that showcase what we do. There’s often the misconception that antiques are boring, but they’re not at all, they’re fascinating and often have such interesting stories to tell.”

Izzie, who specialises in Jewellery and Silver is currently filming her second series of Antiques Road Trip which will air in 2020. Entries are invited for her next specialist Jewellery, Silver, Watches & Coins auction, which will take place on Friday 6th December 2019.
